Sandbox Broadcasting | Empowering Neurodivergent Voices in Media

Developing digital and creative skills for disabled and neurodivergent young people and adults

Welcome to Project Sandbox, the broadcasting arm of Inclusive Change at Work CIC ( ICAW-cic.com ). Specialising in podcast and radio production, Project Sandbox focuses on amplifying voices and stories from the neurodivergent and disabled communities, with a strong emphasis on neurodiversity.

At the heart of the project is a commitment to inclusion and

empowerment. We offer volunteering and work experience opportunities to disabled and neurodivergent young people aged 16–24, equipping them with transferable and digital skills - from audio editing and research to scripting and content creation. Through hands-on training and mentorship, Project Sandbox supports young people in building confidence, gaining experience, and preparing for future employment in media and beyond.

What have we been doing?

We’ve recently been working in partnership with the Avon & Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner to produce a podcast and radio series titled SCAM ME. The series explores how to create a safer digital environment for disabled and neurodivergent individuals.

To shape the content of the six episodes, we’ve spoken with industry experts as well as disabled and neurodivergent people of all ages, gathering a wide range of insights and lived experiences.

As part of the project, we also welcomed three neurodivergent young adult volunteers to our team. Throughout the process, they’ve developed valuable digital skills - from researching and fact-checking to writing blogs and editing audio. Their contributions have been essential to the success of the series.

Check out their blogs further down the page, where they talk about their own experiences working on the project.

We want you to get involved with us and this exciting initiative!

Get involved...

  • We have a range of ways to get involved

  • As a volunteer to share your knowledge and skills

  • As a volunteer to learn new skills

  • As a supporter or sponsor

We have more information in our brochures - click on the links above, fill in the form below or or email [email protected] and we will get back to you.

Why this matters...

  • Disabled individuals face increased risk of exploitation - that includes online

  • Neurodivergent and disabled people are often targeted by online scams and predators

  • Fewer disabled people feel confident online compared to non-disabled peers

  • Lots of neurodivergent adults report experiencing online harassment and bullying

Why is this important to us?

Young people who are disabled or neurodivergent often face significant barriers to education, employment, and social inclusion.

Traditional educational environments may not provide the flexibility and support these individuals need to thrive.

There is a critical need for innovative, inclusive projects that empower these young people with the skills and confidence required to succeed in various fields.

Inclusive Change At Work CIC envisions a world where all young people, regardless of their abilities, have equal opportunities to develop their skills, share their voices, and achieve their potential.

By creating content and developing podcasts, we are creating a dynamic, supportive environment where participants can LEARN, GROW, and CONNECT.
