What is neurodiversity?

Did you know that it is likely that 20% of your workforce is likely to be neurodivergent?

Imagine tapping into the immense potential and unique perspectives that these talented individuals bring to the table!

Are you equipped with the right tools to effectively support your neurodivergent colleagues, leaders, or employees?

At Inclusive Change, we believe in the power of embracing diversity. That's why we're excited to share our unique and innovative training to your organisation.

Neurodiversity describes the diversity of human minds. Our businesses and organisations are made up of neurodiverse minds but...

Some of us are neurodivergent

Neurodivergent is the umbrella term for a range of differences in the way we think and experience the world. Those conditions include (but aren't limited to) Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Tourettes.

It is estimated that 20% of our population are neurodivergent

That means that at least 20% of your staff and leadership team are likely to be neurodivergent.

So it makes good business sense to create organisations and services with neurodiversity in mind and here are some reasons why...

  • Improved diversity and inclusion

  • Competitive advantage

  • Improved staff and customer engagement

  • A greater sense of value and loyalty from customers & staff

  • Improved reputation

CIPD Neuroinclusion at work report - Feb 2024

The reality of neurodiversity means that every interaction at work takes place between people with different brains – yet, typically, very few organisations are thinking about neurodiversity or neuroinclusion. This represents a significant missed opportunity for organisations looking to address their key talent priorities at the same time as addressing inequalities at work faced by neurodivergent people

30% More Productive: The ROI of a neurodiverse workforce - 2023

New data suggests that 15% to 20%
of the population may be neurodivergent – up from estimates of 5% to 10% just five years ago. This shift underscores the critical need for employers to broaden the horizons of their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts to encompass neuro-inclusion

Half of neurodivergent employees miss work due to lack of support - March 2024

Half of neurodivergent employees have taken time off work due to their neurodivergence, a 5% rise from last year, according to City & Guilds’ Neurodiversity Index. The report also found that 36% received no workplace support, and 18% didn’t know where to seek help.

What does the future of work look like?

While we don't have a magic crystal ball at our disposal, we can predict a few things about the future of the workforce.

✅ 53% of Gen Z identify as neurodivergent

✅ Gen Z will occupy 58% of the global workforce by 2030

✅ 78% of neurodivergent employees do not disclose at work

What does this mean for businesses such as yours?

This means that sooner rather than later, your business will be employing mostly Gen Z and Millennial individuals who will have greater inclusion expectations from their prospective employers.

A few of the expectations your future workforce will be looking for are

☑️ A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), for companies that actively promote diversity and inclusion.

☑️ Inclusive hiring practices with a focus on inclusion across all abilities and neurodiversity.

☑️ Assistive technologies: for neurodivergent workers, the availability of assistive technology (such as software for task management or communication) will be expected.
